  2. Oh My God! That makes me angry! So angry!

It makes me think about the saying of Albert Einstein: 'Knowledge can get you from A to be, Imagination can take you anywhere!' :)

  3. :( I feel like I'm on the other side of that window. A TON of kids keep saying they want to be art teachers when they grow up. If they were able to teach math, science and reading more creatively they might see more career options. It's a very small world for some kids right now. . . we need to make it bigger not even SMALLER. We need to show them that creativity is important in all subjects. No child left behind leaves every teacher stressed out.

  4. Pat, a friend of mine posted the cartoon on Facebook and I lifted it from there. I don't know the original source.

Just a sad state of affairs, isn't it?

  5. made me think about this Sir Ken Robinson talk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U

very interesting stuff-- instead of encouraging creativity, we're squelching it!

  6. Same here in Holland. It looks like education is only about maths and language.

  7. Phyl! Remember how I was telling you about how our PGC day was going to be about the "core" subjects? Oh man... it was a treat! Our presenter was basically saying that we need to teach to the test because 'that's just the way it is right now.' She said that all students have to take the same SAT's and all students have to take the same Regents, etc. It was awful : (. Since when did children fit a "standard" mold? If anything, we're realizing they're even MORE different than we thought years ago, so how are they all taking the same "standard"ized tests?
